The Feel
Teal Club prides itself on providing support with a
strong emphasis on raising awareness.
With another campaign in the making, we
would like to take this moment to reflect....
When we first launched the "Feel Teal &
Dance Again" campaign in 2009, there was a rush of excitement...
followed by panic! "Would this idea work, and would the
world FINALLY recognise the colour 'teal'?" Thanks to those
who eagerly stepped-up to assist, we can comfortably say it was
well worth all the hard work, as the Internet is now buzzing
with awareness-activity with the colour 'teal' splashed on many
web-pages!
It has been an amazing journey, but it has also had
its moments of sadness along the way.
Our wonderful friend/campaign-spokesman, Rick
Finch, was confronted by some terrible allegations made against
him, and subsequently had to forgo any further involvement with
us. Suffice it to say, it is a tragic loss to our cause, as his
commitment to Feel Teal surpassed our wildest dreams!
For legal reasons, I cannot divulge too much, but
am able to speak from a personal point of view.
Rick Finch came into my life shortly after the
sudden death of my mother, offering his hand of friendship
across thousands of miles and an ocean to a complete
stranger...eight years later, we have continued to share
letters, gifts, interviews and a lovely friendship. It seemed
only natural that he should be selected as the face to represent
our ovarian cancer campaign, and he was just as happy to accept
the role.
Rick worked tirelessly to promote the
"awareness message" while researching the disease, (he
wanted to be well-informed and NOT just a talking head to our
cause), taking this message of awareness wherever his travels
took him!
The radio interviews and various public events were
a great platform for the new music and artists he was producing
and our campaign, so much so, Rick decided to take it one step
further by offering 50% of CD sales to be donated to Ovarian
Cancer research. Because of increased interest, we were happily
forced to extend the campaign's time-frame, stretching it from
September to the end of December, '09. I was humbled by Rick's
unwavering support, and his incredibly selfless
attitude...anytime a person wanted to thank him, his response,
"It's a God-thang!"
So here we are, another year and another event, and the man who did so much for this cause is now facing
his own horrendous battle: one that has taken much of his own
life, very much like a cancer! Rick Finch is absent from duty,
but not his spirit. He is in constant prayer and deeply
following his faith and has even ministered to others facing
their own legal and spiritual challenges. His present situation
has not deterred his Christianity, even though there will always
be those sceptics to question this.
As the founder/creator of the Feel Teal Club, it is
MY duty to oversee and maintain our website, information, news
and events while remaining faithful to the campaign.
The same rule applies here, as I continue to show
the same compassion for Rick Finch, offering my hand of
friendship and support while awaiting his return.
Blessings,
Feel Teal Club
